What we’re looking for?

A unique opportunity to join the Stores collaboration has become available for an experienced Project Programme Manager for Stores. Critical to this role is a a minimum of 2-5 years’ experience in retail with a strong understanding of retail store development; we require a project manager who excels at managing timelines to a determined budget.  Reporting to a National Stores Development Manager, this role has two primary area of accountabilities:

 Programme Management Function:

  • Manage and maintain the store works programme for all property related projects; new stores, store refurbishments, business initiatives, ensuring there is a pipeline of works to grow sales and profit by timely scheduling, risk management and stakeholder engagement
  • Delivers timely and clear communication to key stakeholders to ensure the business can deliver to the programme.
  • Develops and improves processes to optimise team performance and programme delivery through identifying process gaps, stakeholder engagement and strong communication

 Project Management Function:

  • Project Manage the fit-out of new Kmart store projects to approved Program, budget and Scope Of Works / Specification whilst minimising any impact on the store operations or customer experience and ensuring best practice processes and procedures are followed for successful delivery and stakeholder engagement;
  • Reduce disruption and the square metre cost for the construction and fit-out of new / refurbished stores
  • Detailed Staging Plans are completed, agreed to with Stores/Operations, and appropriate tracking measures and milestones are established;
  • Manage sales disruption programmes during site works to ensure minimal customer impact occurs;
  • Suppliers deliver the required elements (Building, Kit, Signage, etc.) in a timely manner and of an acceptable quality;
  • Proactive management of risks, issues, and budgets occurs, with appropriate stakeholder contact / involvement as required;
  • OH&S compliance policies and procedures are adhered to;
  • Stores are successfully handed over to Store Managers and Maintenance managers following the completion of all works; and
  • The wider organisation is engaged in works, where required, to ensure successful execution of the construction and development occurs.
  • Safety, Health and environment principles are integrated effectively into all aspects of new store and refurbishment projects and ensure all projects are completed in accordance with relevant health and safety regulations.


About You

To be successful in securing this role, you will ideally possess the following qualifications, skills and experience;

  • Tertiary qualifications in project management or programme management
  • Tertiary qualifications in Building, Construction Management or Architecture or equivalent desirable
  • Qualifications in Project Management desirable
  • Strong knowledge of the Environmental Planning & Assessment Acts, Building Code of Australia and relevant Australian Standards applicable to the construction and fit-out of retail stores
  • Advanced project management experience, preferably in a retail environment
  • Demonstrated experience in the client side Project Management of the construction and fit-out of retail stores, preferably to DDS or Department Store level
  • High level and detailed organisational and planning skills
  • Demonstrated ability to effect and manage diverse and multi-disciplinary project teams
  • Strong exposure to and understanding of retail business environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of local government approvals process including Development / Planning approvals and Building / Construction approvals
  • Ability to co-ordinate, facilitate and manage project teams including but not limited to building contractors, trade sub-contractors, suppliers, consultants, lessor representatives, other external and internal stakeholders
