What we’re looking for?  

Kmart Technology is embarking on a journey that includes development and implementation of new software systems as well as cloud transformation involving existing system, to support not just growth of the business but also new business models. As part of this technology you, you will have an opportunity to be technology leader to solve complex problems related to demand product design, development, planning, forecasting, fulfillment, ordering etc, with focus on balancing lead time and quantity to get Kmart products to the customers.   

As such we have an exciting opportunity for a Tech Lead to join the team.  This role will see you working closely with the Architecture team to determine system roadmaps and embedding DevOps practices into the team. This is an opportunity to get in on the ground level and determine which floors you stop at on your journey to delivering a modern Cloud based system.  

We are looking for highly technical, passionate, self-motivated and talented tech lead who love solving tough and challenging problems. The ideal candidate will need exemplary analytical skills, critical thinking, problem solving skills, and have a passion for creating scalable, reliable & maintainable enterprise facing software systems. As a tech lead, you will be providing technical leadership to a dynamic group of engineers where flexibility, teamwork, and creative thinking are highly valued. Engineers will look to you for mentorship, guidance and solutions to complex problems. The ability to build productive relationships with architects, product owners and other stakeholders will make you successful in this role. 
 
The position involves designing and guiding the development of major technology initiatives. Tech leads need to thrive in an agile environment towards tangible business goals. In addition to your own deliverables you will be overseeing the design and coding of Software Development Engineers in one or more teams (none of whom report directly to you).  
 
Specifically, this role will see you fulfilling the following responsibilities: 

  • Ability to architect and design right solutions starting with broadly defined problems 
  • Provide technical mentorship/leadership to other engineers 
  • Drive best practices and engineering excellence, including DevOps practise in the team 
  • Influence technical and business roadmaps  

About You  

To meet the challenges of this role, you will ideally possess the following skills and experience; 

  • Strong experience in designing and leading the team towards an extensible design 
  • Excellent technical coding skills with the ability to mentor and coach the team around best practice coding in technologies including React.js, React Native, Node.js
  • Strong experience in CI/CD, testing automation and test driven development. 
  • Experience using AWS cloud environments, services based and event driven architectures; 
  • Proven ability to lead change, represent end users interests and influence and motivate; 
  • Naturally curious with an innate desire  and ability to analyse and solve problems. 
  • Experience of working in agile environment using Agile methodologies 

This role will require  you to speak up and lead the way both from a technology perspective and a team perspective. This isn’t for the feint hearted, but will be fulfilling.  You will need to draw on your patience as moving on-prem systems to the cloud doesn’t happen overnight.   Are you up for it?
