We have an exciting opportunity for a passionate and talented Menswear Designer to join our team who love to make everyday living brighter for our customers. Our design team, in partnership with our buyers, planners and global sourcing team are critical to delivering our business strategy and the success of Kmart hinges on our reputation for being an amazing place to work and grow.

The role will see you become a crucial part of the team, so we are seeking a well-qualified and experienced candidate who is highly creative with a real vision for designing men’s woven’s product who has outstanding commercial awareness and a comprehensive understanding of current menswear trends.

You will be capable of jumping in and hitting the ground running in this fast-paced environment.  Your previous experience will have had a focus on woven’s product - shirting, denim, outerwear, jackets, pants and shorts, coupled with your ability to create your own graphics and print will hold you in good stead for this role. 

Reporting into the menswear design manager, you will be responsible for a product area and have a real input in the category design direction. You will also be responsible for identifying, interpreting and implementing global and market trends to grow sales.  This role will require you to utilize your strategic leadership skills to drive positive range outcomes. You will be expected to plan and design new ranges, taking responsibility for everything from design concept through to technical fabric development, product selection and producing creative designs that represent the very latest fashion trends in Menswear. An ability to react quickly to any necessary, in season, product changes is also an important factor within this role.

Your success in this role will be measured by your ability to ensure speed to market, understanding of market trends and product differentiation from competitors. Your ability to prioritise workflow and ensure challenging deadlines are met is crucial and essential to this role is your sound background in graphic design, garment construction, technical drawings, fabric knowledge, textile yardages and print placements and range building. In addition, you must have a strong working knowledge of Adobe Illustrator CS and Adobe Photoshop CS. Your strong account management skills will also give you the ideal background to excel in this position.
