Risk & Compliance Manager - Kmart Group

Wesfarmers Limited have structured its department store businesses to enable Kmart and Target to maximise and share opportunities where appropriate whilst separately maintaining and growing these iconic Australian brands. 

Reporting in to the Kmart Group Head of Risk & Compliance, we have the opportunity for an experienced Risk & Compliance specialist to manage a small team of Compliance Officers as well as take a strategic role in building a risk management and business continuity framework for Kmart Group.

Supporting two locations between Kmart National Office in Mulgrave and the Target Store Support Office in Williams Landing (of which you can select your preference for home base), other key responsibilities in this role will see you involved in the following:

  • Plan, design and implement an overall risk management process for Kmart Group and to be operationally responsible for Business Continuity Management
  • Create and implement strategies, programs, policies and procedures and solutions across the business to control risks, improve operational efficiencies and ensure compliance with the relevant standards and regulations.
  • Conduct risk assessments, which will involve analysing risks as well as identifying, describing and estimating risks impacting the core businesses
  • Prepare risk evaluation and compare estimated risks against criteria determined by Wesfarmers such as; costs, legal requirements and environmental factors
  • Plan, design and implement a risk management process, systems and assurance mechanisms to monitor, control and minimise non-financial risk, including conducting risk profiling workshops
  • Maintaining a risk register based on the identified risks affecting the businesses and preparing risk reporting, as required
  • Maintain an inventory of internal controls and map them to key risk areas
  • Completion of Board and Risk & Audit Committee reporting

To be successful in securing this role, you will ideally possess the following skills and experience;

  • Formal qualifications in Risk & Compliance (desirable but not mandatory)
  • Extensive experience in a similar compliance role in a large organisational environment (ideally multi-site)
  • Extensive experience in a risk management role in a retail (ideally) or financial services (finance, insurance etc) environment
  • A sound understanding of the Australian regulatory landscape – State, Federal including Australian Consumer Law, Trade Measurements, Australian Standards, Mandatory Standards etc.
  • Highly developed discovery, analytical, evaluation and written communication skills to provide quality advice on compliance and risk management
  • Demonstrable expertise in the acceleration of impact analysis, business prioritisation and recovery plan development
  • Experienced in the uplift of business continuity management within the business
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal combined with an advanced knowledge of Microsoft applications (i.e. Word, excel, PowerPoint)
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain productive relationships to effectively influence, negotiate and resolve substantial and sensitive issues with stakeholders
  • Experienced in coaching and developing a small team in the area of risk & compliance (required)
