Reporting in to the Finance Manager – Store Operations, the role of Commercial Analyst is central to providing analysis and general accounting around store operations to support business decisions to deliver the Kmart corporate strategy.

You will have significant experience gained in a commercial role combined with a solid background in finance or accounting with (ideally) retail industry experience. Summary of the key responsibilities of this role outlined as follows;

  • Provide commercial and financial advice on the underlying trading performance of the Store Ops function
  • Support the preparation of budgets for the Store Ops function and conduct variance analysis on monthly results
  • Conduct analysis on initiatives to improve performance for the Store Ops function
  • Identify trends and identify the key drivers of over & under performance across the store fleet
  • Build and provide input into key initiatives and construct well thought out and thorough business cases for presentation to the Investment Council
  • Provide insight into the performance of store remuneration and identify areas of improvement and innovative solutions to reduce CODB
  • Identify ways to streamline internal work flow and improve business efficiency

To meet the challenges of this role, you will ideally possess the following skills and experience;

  • Degree qualified in Finance, Commerce or related discipline (required) combined with advanced degree or professional qualification CA/CPA/MBA (preferred)
  • Advanced MS Excel skills (V-lookups, Pivot tables etc) – those with working familiarity of Microsoft Access, TM1 and SAP considered highly desirable
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy with an ability to work under time constraints and prioritise tasks effectively
  • Analytical mind with ability to problem solve, identify trends and actively address upcoming issues / opportunities
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation and presentation skills
  • Strong understanding of company P&L and key drivers
  • Strong understanding of executive/management reporting requirements combined with an ability to construct well thought out business cases
  • Ability to work autonomously or as part of a project team combined with a strong customer focussed mindset
