Reporting in to the Finance Manager – Merchandise & Marketing, the role of Commercial Analyst - Merchandise is central to providing analysis around merchandise trade to support business decisions to deliver the Kmart corporate strategy.  We are now seeking an experience Commercial Analyst for a 12-month fixed term maternity leave contract to (ideally) join the business in mid-October 2019.

You will have significant experience gained in a commercial role, possess a solid background in finance or accounting with retail or consumer industry experience. Summary of the key responsibilities of this role outlined as follows;

  • Identify trends and identify the key drivers of over and under performance across merchandise
  • Produce reporting dashboards as well as written commentary on merchandise performance for input to monthly management reports, Board reports
  • Provide insight into the performance of merchandise departments and identify areas of improvement and innovative solutions to grow sales and profit, as well as reduce shrinkage
  • Build and provide input into key strategic initiatives across Apparel and General Merchandise
  • Construct well thought out business cases for Capex approval to the Kmart Investment Council, including acting as a Finance Lead in key working groups for key strategic initiatives
  • Working with key stakeholders, identify opportunities to improve sales and profitability across merchandise
  • Identify ways to streamline internal work flow and improve business efficiency across merchandise
  • Establish key KPIs / benchmarks to measure merchandise performance and provide thought leadership into factors for success.

To meet the challenges of this role, you will possess the following skills and experience;

  • Degree qualified in Finance, Commerce or related discipline (required) combined with advanced degree or professional qualification CA/CPA/MBA (preferred)
  • Advanced MS Excel skills (i.e. v look-ups, pivot tables etc)
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy with an ability to work under time constraints and prioritise tasks effectively
  • Analytical mind with ability to problem solve, identify trends and actively address upcoming issues / opportunities
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation and presentation skills
  • Strong understanding of company P&L and key drivers
  • Strong understanding of executive/management reporting requirements combined with an ability to construct well thought out business cases
  • Good interpersonal skills with ability to liaise with various stakeholders across the business
  • Ability to work autonomously or as part of a project team combined with a strong customer focussed mindset
