Reporting to the State Safety Manager you will implement safety inspection and hazard reduction programs and work supportively with site managers in the delivery of Kmart's safety strategy. 

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity for an up and coming Safety Officer to contribute to the delivery of  safety compliance at Kmart. You will bring your amazing stakeholder management experience and be able to apply your broad technical and functional expertise in this demanding, yet highly rewarding, environment.

Key responsibilities in this role include:

  • Implement the safety inspection program in stores that drives continuous improvement and best practice in hazard reduction
  • Assist store managers with incident and injury reporting ensuring accurate records are delivered and maintained
  • Advise management on hazard prevention strategies and assist in their implementation.
  • Conduct general safety information sessions to team members
  • Proactively identify risks, manage hazards, investigate incidents and provide appropriate reporting.
  • Partner with the stores to understand and address WH&S needs and facilitate the communication process between stores and health and safety
  • Develop and conduct regular audits to ensure processes, systems and contractors comply with legislation, policies and procedures
  • Assist managers and staff in ensuring appropriate compliance checks, analysis and risk assessments along with scheduled and ad-hoc inspections across sites
  • Assist with the preparation of internal audits

 Please note the role is based in Sydney and will require regular travel to stores throughout NSW and ACT

To meet the challenges of this role, you will ideally possess the following skills and experience;

  • Diploma qualified in Work, Health and Safety or tertiary qualified in allied health field such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy or exercise physiology
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of WHS legislation
  • Effective stakeholder engagement skills across multiple levels
  • Strong interpersonal communication and influencing skills
  • High self-awareness including planning and time management
  • Intermediate computer skills with experience in using the Microsoft Office Suite
