Early 2016, Wesfarmers Limited announced a restructure of its department store businesses enabling Kmart and Target to maximise and share opportunities whilst maintaining and growing these iconic Australian brands.  Through this restructure, a new Department Store Division was created comprising of both Kmart Australia Ltd and Target Australia Ltd.

A unique opportunity to join the department stores collaboration has become available for an experienced Network Data professional to take on the newly formed role of Data and GIS Manager as and added resource for the Network Planning team.  Reporting to the National Network Planning Manager, this role will see you involved in the following;

  • Design and organise existing data to create one identifiable source of the truth and a logical and systematic relationship between data-sets and databases/ tools
  • Responsible for creating and maintaining the streams of data between Network tools and databases, other business functions and third parties
  • Maintain and seek to improve the WESDS Store Data Tool, MapInfo and Excel templates used within the Network Planning function
  • Track store lifecycle from identification of opportunities through location, potential sites, approved deals, opened stores, refurbishments and closures and integrate into data tools and databases
  • Primary responsibility for Flybys database processing and mapping
  • Keep Network Planners and Manager up to date on shopping centre and competitor activity, ensuring relevant data feeds into network planning models and databases

To be successful in securing this role, you will ideally possess the following skills and experience;

  • Tertiary qualification in the field of Geomatics/ Data Sciences, Maths & Statistics, Computer Science or related field or discipline
  • Considerable MapInfo and MapBasic experience essential, advanced user of MapInfo GIS, QGIS skills highly valued
  • Advanced user of Excel, Access, MS SQL including VB programming and SQL programming combined with experience with data visualisation tools e.g. Tableau
  • Experience of statistical regression analysis preferable
  • Strong GIS background, within a Property Economics, Site Research or Network Planning team (preferably within a large retailer or specialty retail /property consultancy)
  • Data extraction and manipulation with specific experience of working with and managing large and complex datasets
  • Appreciation of market dynamics, customer insights and macroeconomic influences on retail markets
  • Self-motivated and proactive; excellent organisational skills; strong written communication skills
  • Ideally possess a knowledge of Australian retail landscape and understanding of market trends
  • Ability to provide independent, open and honest advice with regards to GIS and data related issues
